Dear Scott and family: John and I went way, way back -- I think we were in kindergarten together at University School. I had hoped he would be at the centennal celebration of IU's Ernie Pyle School of Journalism in September, but he wasn't. I should have called him then. All my memories of him are good ones. Dear Scott & Claire, I was so sorry to learn of your brother's passing. He was a bit older than me, so I never really knew him that well, but I remember him having that great Mahan sense of humor. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I knew John well. I will ever forget his cheerfulness and his good heart.Though I have not seen him for many years, he will be missed.

I am saddened to learn of John's passing. He and I were fraternity brothers at Indiana University and one I remember fondly. I regret the paths we took after graduation prevented our continuing that association. It was my loss. Goodbye, my Brother.
