“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”  On Wednesday, August 11, 2010 the world lost a beautiful spirit.  Katelyn Elisabeth Miller passed away at the young age of 24.  She lived life with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge; her love for books was unmatched.  She was a loving and compassionate person who was always willing to lend a helping hand.  She touched the hearts of many people with her kindness, generosity and tender soul.  She is survived by her father James Miller, mother Susan Calhoun, sisters Elaisa Trendelman and Rachel Miller, brother-in-law Trent Trendelman, nephew Tyler Trendelman, step mother Julie Miller, grandmother Ruth Calhoun, and countless other friends and family.

Visitation for Kate will be held from 1:00PM until 3:00PM on Saturday, August 14th  at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 South Old State Road 37.  Time will be set from 1:30-2:30 for friends and family to share their memories and thoughts of Kate.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe County Public Library, one of Kate's favorite places in the world. Dear Katy's Family: My heart is breaking for you. Katy was such a comfort to us at the time of the loss of my son, Mikey, just s short time ago, on May 11. Please know, that for what it's worth, others do understand your pain and loss. Katy was a wonderful, sweet young woman. I hope you find, as I have, that your loss is only bearable because those near you surround you with extra love and compassion in the days, weeks and months to come. I am so sorry I couldn't be there at Allen to visit the family. My husband and Mikey's two brothers took a vacation to Maine to be out of town over what would have been his 25th birthday. Thinking about you, Mary McMullen

Jim and Susie, Elaisa and Rachel, We were heart sick and deeply saddened when we heard about Katie. We immediately remembered the time when Katie babysat our boys and decided to make cookies. Unfortunately, she discovered we were out of chocolate chips. Not to be deterred, she packed up the boys and visited a couple of neighbors until she found one who could give her the chocolate chips. For us this memory captured Katie's spirit and our memory of her character. Our boys remember the babysitter who gave them an adventure. We truly appreciate and miss the time we shared with Katie and your family. You have our deepest condolences. Love, Andy, Daphne, Jake, and Luke

Dear Katy, you and your Dad helped me heal that summer, of 2003. You showed me how to live in simplicity, music, coffee and newspaper on the front porch mornings. Meals shared. My time with you was so healing, simple and satisfying. I will remember those months forever and ever. I love you, Jim, Katy, Rachel and Elaisa. Love Andrea

I only worked with her for a short time, but she was definitely one of the sweetest people I've ever worked with. Even after she left the job, she was happy to see me whenever we ran into each other. She was one of those people who was always in a bright mood and could put others in the same mood.
