Mary Kathryn "Mary Kay", Strain Fulwider Rash of Bloomington passed away at the age of 101,  Thursday February 10, 2011.  She was one of the first residents of Meadowood Retirement Community, and spent her last years at the Meadowood Health Pavilion. 

She was born March 22, 1909 to Joseph Luther and Shirley Beyers Strain in Bloomington. After graduating from from Bloomington High School, she attended the Indiana University and obtained her bachelor's degree, then attended the Indiana University Training School for Nurses. She was dedicated to nursing and to education, and until her passing remained a member of Tri Kappa Sorority.  

Mary Kay had a love for travel,and shared colorful stories of the places she was felt so privileged to see, and of the people she encountered.  

She was a past member of the Bloomington Society of Friends and recently of First United Methodist Church in Bloomington. 

Mary Kay is survived by her son Larry Fulwider of Beverly, Massachusetts, her step-daughter, Marjorie Rash Miller of Vincennes, stepson Bill Rash of Denver, Colorado, 10 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband  Dr. J. Keogh Rash.

An empty place will be in our hearts, and at Indiana University sporting and cultural events as the Big Red bids goodbye to one of her most loyal fans.
